Sierra Club Meeting @ Harry P. Leu Gardens
Sep 19 @ 10:30 pm – 1:00 am

Cris Costello, from the Florida Sierra Club, will be our speaker. She is working on “slime crimes” in order to improve the health of our waterways. In the last few years we have experienced toxic slime outbreaks on the Caloosahatchee and St. Johns Rivers, choking beyond recognition of our state’s most iconic springs with algae, and repeated red tides and fish kills along our beaches. At the same time we have experienced a full court press from the state’s Department of Agriculture and the fertilizer and pest control industries to defeat strong urban fertilizer controls that can help to prevent such environmental disasters. What is causing this and what can we do? Come find out at the September Sierra Club meeting.

Door opens at 6:30 pm, with light snacks and socializing. A great way to meet more environmental folk and network!
Programs are held from 7 – 8:45 pm. A brief discussion of environmental issues precedes the program with info on upcoming, fun, outings!

*Admission is always free, and the public is invited — So come on down, and bring some friends!

“Try going a day without plastic. In this touching and often flat-out-funny film, we follow “everyman” Jeb Berrier as he embarks on a global tour to unravel the complexities of our plastic world. What starts as a film about plastic bags evolves into a wholesale investigation into plastic and its effect on our waterways, oceans and even

our own bodies. We see how our crazy-for-plastic world has finally caught up to us and what we can do about it. Today. Right now.”

–Winner of 5 national and international film festivals! –
